September 2024
We're delighted to announce the unveiling of two exceptional artworks by local Birmingham artists at our latest development, The Silver Yard. This exciting reveal is part of a creative initiative aimed at showcasing the city's vibrant talent.
This was a unique collaboration and partnership with Birmingham City University, Grainger launched an innovative arts project inviting students and alumni to create pieces that answer the question: "What does Birmingham mean to you?" The response was overwhelming, leading to the selection of not one, but two winning entries.
Meet our Talented Winners
Matthew Brotherson, a 21-year-old BA Illustration student from Bromford, captured the judges' attention with his abstract interpretation of the iconic Birmingham Bull. Matthew's piece beautifully represents the city's celebrated cultural diversity.
John Hall, a 50-year-old BCU alumnus residing in Moseley, impressed with his abstract concept highlighting Birmingham's multifaceted character - from its green spaces and sporting heritage to its urban expression and renowned culinary scene.
A Permanent Home for Local Art
These stunning artworks will take pride of place in The Silver Yard's reception area, warmly welcoming residents and visitors alike and within our much-used resident lounge. It's a testament to our commitment to integrating local culture and talent into our developments.
“As our second development in Birmingham, we wanted to celebrate the city within our newest development. At Grainger, we put the community at the heart of everything we do, and our exciting arts project is no exception.”
Nurturing Local Talent
Renowned Birmingham-born artist Amrit Singh, who was part of the judging panel, highlighted the significance of such initiatives: "Competitions like this are crucial in giving young, budding artists the chance to hone their craft and showcase their work. You never know who might see it!"
We're thrilled to have brought this project to life, providing a platform for local artists and adding a unique, Birmingham-centric touch to The Silver Yard. It's another way we're working to create vibrant, community-focused living spaces that truly reflect and celebrate their locations.
