Assured:
An assured tenancy grants a degree of security of tenure to the tenant. A tenant under an assured tenancy may not be evicted without reason and the rent under the assured tenancy will often fall under the supervision of a Rent Assesssment Committee.
Assured shorthold tenancy (AST):
AST's are residential properties let at market rents on assured shorthold tenancy ('AST') agreements typically of six months to a year.
In the year to September 2006 we transferred a large number of our AST's to G:res1; the fund we subsequently launched in 2007. Increasingly we are purchasing regulated tenancies in portfolios which also contain AST's. We will either hold these for ongoing capital growth or trade them over a relatively short period depending on how we believe returns can be maximised.
