Developer Grainger plc is pleased to unveil detailed plans for the first stage of its mixed-use Newlands Common development, which will create a modern, sustainable and vibrant community on a site west of Waterlooville in South Hampshire.
The scheme already has outline planning permission, and now Grainger is putting forward more detail about the initial 161 homes and the planned community centre it’s hoping to create on the 132 hectare site.
Overall, the development plans include 1,550 new homes, a new school, the community centre, health and leisure facilities, 100,000sqm of commercial space and a new public common at its heart, including a cricket pitch and other sports facilities.
The development will focus on the lifestyle of the community which lives there; it’s a scheme which uses imaginative architecture to create high quality, attractive buildings which will also fulfill the practical needs of modern living.
Grainger is committed to creating a wholly sustainable development; not only is the health and well-being of those who will be living there a key focus, but also to enrich the local biodiversity: The remnants of the Bere forest will be enhanced; a new wet land habitat incorporated as part of the sustainable urban drainage system; and the new public common. In total there will be over 30 hectares of green public space on completion.
A public exhibition is being staged at Deverell Hall, Purbrook, to show the phase one plans in full detail.
Paul Storey, Development Director at Grainger plc said:
“Our aim is to create a place which promotes healthy and happy living. We will be building brand new local facilities around green open spaces, all within walking or cycling distance from the new homes and existing facilities. We have listened to the local people and councils throughout our masterplanning and we hope people are pleased with what they see at the public exhibition, which shows in more detail our vision for the site”
Press are invited to a media session at Deverell Hall, on Friday 5th September, between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. CGIs of various aspects of the scheme are also available on request.
